How Important Is Your Transformer Specification?
To find out, join our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar: “8 Simple Steps to Specifying a Transformer” , taking place in October and November. After the successful delivery of nine CPD seminars to over 730 attendees this summer, we are pleased to announce two additional sessions. Click on the dates below to register:
These seminars are offered free of charge and will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
An outdated power supply or distribution transformer can lead to significant energy waste. Correctly specifying the transformer that suits your application is essential to avoid unnecessary costs. A poor specification can result in decades of inefficient energy use and wasted resources.
During the seminar, you will also learn about the 4Ps process for specifying transformers, which includes Programme , Problems , Product , and Price .
This methodology ensures that your project stays on schedule, that your equipment arrives as needed, with all the required testing and documentation, and is fit for purpose at a competitive price.
Why Have Transformer Specifications Become More Important?
Traditionally, power flowed in a unidirectional manner, from generation to load (high voltage to low voltage), and our grid infrastructure was designed accordingly. Historically, load patterns were predictable, with seasonal peaks and troughs that could be easily forecast. Transformer designs and standards were developed to meet these consistent loading profiles, and the power supply remained relatively “clean,” with analogue generation (combustion-based) and fewer power electronic devices affecting the load.
Today, however, the introduction of distributed generation and new types of loads at various points in the network has led to bi-directional power flows and an increase in undesirable phenomena. The grid of the future will be vastly different from the one we know today. The rise of unpredictable generation and so-called “dirty loads” will demand a new approach to grid management.
If you recognise these challenges or have been impacted by them, join us at one of the upcoming sessions to explore the ‘8 Simple Steps to Specifying a Transformer’ .
