Announcements

A significant milestone in community development has been achieved in Orakkadu with the official opening of the newly expanded Government High School Orakkadu, a secondary government school dedicated to providing quality education to young girls and boys.

This school is located close to our Indian transformer manufacturing facility, and during one of our previous visits, we noticed that multiple classes were being taught by three different teachers in the same classroom, so we decided to do something about it!

Being Close to the Local Community

Our work with the school started many years ago, as we had carried out maintenance of the school by painting the classrooms, fixing the reverse osmosis (RO) water system and donating books and stationery to the students.

We continued on the initial improvement, and in April 2025, the foundation stone was laid for three new classrooms designed to support the growing educational needs of the community. In just a few months, those plans were transformed into a vibrant learning space ready to welcome students.

The new facility includes:

  • Three newly constructed classrooms

  • Capacity to serve five academic year groups

  • Approximately 60 pupils per academic year

  • A safe and structured environment for continued secondary education

With the school officially opening in November 2025, up to 300 students over a five-year cycle will benefit from enhanced infrastructure and improved access to learning.

Investing in the Next Generation

Access to quality secondary education is a critical step in shaping confident, capable young adults. For many families in Orakkadu and nearby communities, having a well-equipped government secondary school close to home reduces barriers to continued education, particularly for girls.

This initiative supports:

  • Increased school retention beyond the primary level

  • Equal learning opportunities for girls and boys

  • Improved academic performance through better facilities

  • Long-term community development

A Shared Celebration

The inauguration ceremony in November 2025 brought together company representatives, local government officials, educators, parents, and students in a celebration of collaboration and progress.

As a local manufacturer of essential power distribution equipment, our company understands that powering communities goes beyond electricity. It means contributing to the social infrastructure that enables long-term growth and opportunity.

Looking Ahead

During a board visit to India in February 2026, we spoke to students and teachers to get some feedback on the new classrooms and to discuss further support for the school. It was apparent that our work will not stop here, as a few other classrooms are housed under corrugated-sheet roofs that retain lots of heat. We are committed to constructing three additional classrooms, along with dedicated toilet and washroom facilities, further strengthening the school’s capacity and ensuring a comfortable, inclusive learning environment for all students and staff.

While our transformers help power homes and businesses across the region, initiatives like this help power something even more meaningful - education, ambition, and possibility. As students take their seats in these new classrooms, they represent the true success of this project. Their aspirations, achievements, and future contributions will be the lasting legacy of today’s investment.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The school development contributes greatly to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals we strongly believe in:

  • Goal 3: Good health and well-being - aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages

  • Goal 4: Quality education - seeks to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

  • Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation - intends to increase the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation

  • Goal 10: Reduced inequalities - focuses on reducing inequalities within and among countries

By improving access to quality education, promoting student well-being, and ensuring inclusive learning environments, the larger and modernised school helps advance equal opportunities for all learners. Additionally, initiatives such as clean water access and programs that reduce inequality within the local community align closely with global efforts to create a more sustainable and fair society.
