Electrical Engineer/Technician

As part of the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for producing the arrangements for products & working within the Engineering Team’s procedural framework to ensure design requirements are met.

We are looking for an experienced Fitter to join our Operations team in an established family-owned business in Leeds.

Wilson Power Solutions as we know it today was established in 1946 by entrepreneur Richard Wilson, the business started out dealing in the provision of flame-proof equipment, pumps and motors. Now managed by the 3rd Generation, we have grown from a small family business to one of the industry’s most trusted power and distribution transformers manufacturers with almost 80 years' experience in the sector.

From the moment an employee steps through our door, they are welcomed with an HR and health and safety induction. The new starter will be introduced to the wider Wilson Power Solutions team and given an onboarding programme crafted specifically for their job role. Onboarding details vary from department to department, so further information can be obtained through your hiring manager.

Our full-time staff is contracted to work 37.5 hours per week. However, depending on projects and production pipelines, site team and shopfloor roles might require a different working arrangement.

We offer a range of dedicated training suites designed to support learning and development across all areas. This includes enhancing technical knowledge and professional conduct to building soft skills and practical, on-the-job expertise. Staff are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge through a variety of avenues, including knowledge sharing, colleague shadowing, cross-departmental collaboration, attending conferences, CPD sessions, external events, and online courses. Should your application be successful, you’ll have the opportunity to explore these development options further with your line manager to tailor a growth path that suits your role and ambitions.

We have a probationary review process, an annual performance and development review, and regular one-to-ones, the details of which vary from position to position. Other reviews are scheduled and conducted as and when needed. We maintain an open-door policy, and employees can ask their line managers for meetings if they want to discuss something in particular.

As a family-run business, we promote a healthy approach to work. Our health care plan is an excellent paid benefit for all employees and offers great well-being information, a fantastic counselling service, and in-house mental health first aiders. The company also has a good social scene with organised events open to all staff.

Our vision is to lead and accelerate decarbonisation in electrical networks. In doing so, we take a holistic approach to making positive climate-friendly decisions, from our workshop being 30% solar-powered to reducing our operations' carbon emissions. Additionally, the company contributes to various local and national charities and sports clubs such as the NHS Together Charities, Andy’s Man Club, Leeds Children’s Charity, Harrogate Rugby Club, Ripon City FC, and Project Seagrass.

We commit to an ethos of continuous improvement, so employee suggestions to improve processes and procedures are welcome for discussion with the relevant line department. We have a suggestions box where employees can share ideas, and all suggestions get reviewed by our directors. Additionally, the company conducts quarterly updates, where staff are encouraged to offer feedback and suggestions.

Right to work requirements

A passport (current or expired) showing the holder is a British citizen or a citizen of the UK and Colonies having the right of abode in the UK.
A passport or passport card (current or expired) showing that the holder is an Irish citizen.
A document issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey or the Isle of Man, which has been verified as valid by the Home Office Employer Checking Service, showing that the holder has been granted unlimited leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU to the Jersey Immigration Rules, Appendix EU to the Immigration (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Rules 2008 or Appendix EU to the Isle of Man Immigration Rules.
A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is exempt from immigration control, is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, has the right of abode in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK.
A current Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office to the holder with an endorsement indicating that the named person is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK or has no time limit on their stay in the UK, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
A birth or adoption certificate issued in the UK, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name, issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
A birth or adoption certificate issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
A certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name, issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
