distribution transformers for water supply companies

Water

Pioneering low-carbon water projects

As an essential service to the UK population, the water sector ensures the delivery of clean water and wastewater management for millions of residents and businesses. The industry, responsible for servicing over 65 million people, involves many energy-intensive processes, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, desalination plants, wastewater treatment works (WwTW), sewage treatment works (STW), and others, which means the sector uses 5% of the country's total energy consumption.

Challenges like stringent quality, economic, and sustainability requirements, as well as the need to integrate renewable energy while ensuring water quality and reliability standards, mean it is vital that water companies keep on top of upgrades to their electrical infrastructure. This includes transformer upgrades for new connections or replacing old, inefficient transformers.

Water companies invest in maintaining and expanding their infrastructure as and when needed. Most initiatives are drafted at the beginning of an Asset Management Period (AMP). MAP-8 starts in April 2025 and ends in 2030 and has seen some initiatives, such as "spend to save", to reach NET Zero ahead of the government's 2050 target. We are proud to work alongside our essential services to improve efficiency and reliability and ultimately save money by reducing energy waste and carbon emissions. Our amorphous transformers not only contribute to carbon emissions reduction, but they make the decision a no-brainer for new projects or replacement jobs as the payback period falls within an AMP, making the investment worthwhile.

Our commitment to the water sector has remained strong over the years. We consistently supply major water companies with transformers annually. These transformers play a crucial role in ensuring reliable power distribution for water treatment plants, pumping stations, and other critical water management facilities. Companies within the sector follow WIMES guidelines for electrical specifications but also develop their own design specifications, which we have previously been involved with. We welcome supporting other water companies who wish to reach out and benefit from our engineering and technical capabilities.
