Thames Water

In collaboration with Enervero, Wilson Power Solutions recently delivered a 1600kVA, dual ratio 11000-6600/433V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Distribution Transformer for Thames Water’s Fortis Green Water Booster Station. Initially constructed in 1975 by the Thames Water Authority, this critical facility maintains water pressure and flow in the distribution system, moving water from reservoirs, water towers, and ponds into the system. Reliable electric power is fundamental to its operation, necessitating advanced transformer solutions.

A notable feature of this dual HV transformer is the grey switch dial, located next to the red de-energised tap changer. This dial allows the rated voltage to switch from the default 11kV to 6.6kV depending on the supply voltage.

Scope of Work	Two 1600kVA, 11-6.6kV/433V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Transformers

The bespoke-designed hermetically sealed Wilson T2 transformer features a nitrogen cushion in the extended top to accommodate oil expansion, ensuring durability and performance under demanding conditions. Ancillaries included an Oil Temperature Indicator (OTI), Winding Temperature Indicator (WTI), Magnetic Oil Level Gauge (MOG), and Pressure Relief Device (PRD)—all tailored to meet the booster station's specific operational needs. The PRD was also fitted with a discharge cover and ground pipe, providing additional protection and boosting the Wilson T2 transformer’s lifespan.

Delivered and offloaded via HIAB, the transformer was seamlessly integrated into the Fortis Green Water Booster Station. This project highlights the importance of precision engineering and collaboration in meeting the unique challenges of water infrastructure.
