Wilson Power Solutions was shortlisted two weeks ago for the Networks and Connections Award as part of the Solar & Storage Live Awards. The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 19th, at a beautiful gala dinner in a room full of lively, enthusiastic, hard-working people. Although we are often very confident in the quality of our work, it is hard to anticipate who will win such awards because you don’t know what captures the judges’ eyes when choosing the winners.

It was time for our category, and (drum roll) Wilson Power Solutions won the Networks and Connections Award at the Solar & Storage Live Awards. Ayah Alfawaris (Energy Policy Manager) and Callum Turner (North & Midlands Sales Engineer) accepted the award on behalf of the company. This award was in recognition of our work on projects within the solar, BESS and EV charging industries. Our transformers have enabled the connections of many vital solar, EV charging & BESS projects around the country. We have adapted our product lines, our project management standards and our delivery and installation techniques to cater to these sensitive projects.
This award win is a testament to our sales and marketing, contracts, engineering, and production teams, who have all worked really hard together and with our clients to design and build bespoke transformers to meet the projects’ specifications. Our team has risen to the challenge, as always! We deeply thank all of our customers who placed their trust in us and continue to do so.
In the BESS industry, we have been working with a few developers and battery manufacturers to provide a new design for each site from a new category of large distribution transformers that require more work on our shopfloor, and tricky delivery to have tens of transformers arrive on site within a short window. This picture on the right is for a 98MW/196MWh BESS project in Yorkshire where we supplied 40x transformers.

We have had great success in building transformers for solar farms; from large power transformers to interesting designs of two transformers in one tank. Our team loves a challenge! We have recently supplied our largest transformer to date, a 140MVA 132/33-33kV Power Transformer to a 50MWp solar farm near Bristol. Once assembled, the transformer weighed 147 tonnes and had dimensions of 1.1 x 5.8 x 6.5m (length x width x height).

Solar & Storage Live is the UK’s biggest renewable energy conference and exhibition this year. It took place last week between 18-20 October 2022 at The NEC in Birmingham. More than 16,000 professionals signed up to attend the event. We exhibited there for three days with 12 of our staff present in total throughout the event.
