Wilson Power Wins Prestigious Sustainability Award

October 2nd 2019

Awards

The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) launched the Sustainability Impact Awards this year to recognise businesses and individuals whose impact on the transformation towards a sustainable world is prominent.

Wilson Power Solutions received an award for the New Product, Service or Technology category. The award came as recognition of Wilson e2 Super Low Loss transformers that have been in the market for over 10 years now. Wilson Power’s amorphous transformers tackled an often-neglected energy-saving potential and addressed the problem of transformer losses.

Erika Wilson, joint managing director of Wilson Power, said, “It is a rewarding feeling to be recognised as a family business from Yorkshire for our efforts to explore a new energy-saving area that is often overlooked. Universities, NHS hospitals, Retailers and Manufacturers are some sectors we focused on to push for this great carbon reduction route.”

The IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards comprise 16 categories for organisations and three categories for individuals. The awards celebrate the work of organisations and individuals for their contribution to the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development.

The judge’s comment on Wilson Power’s award-winning was “This product has made a real difference in practice in the often-overlooked area of energy efficiency, and within this area, the equally overlooked technology of transformers. It demonstrates innovative thinking – innovation which is continuing to be developed in the e3 model.”

Sustainability Impact Award 2019 for Wilson Power Solutions

Competitive Award

Leeds based transformer manufacturer Wilson Power Solutions was named amongst 19 winners out of 106 total shortlisted organisations and individuals. Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Arriva Rail North, the University of Manchester, Environment Agency, Arup, and HS2 are some of the organisations that were awarded alongside Wilson Power Solutions for the sustainable impact their projects have.

Wilson e2 distribution transformers combine amorphous core material with low-current density conductors to provide a distribution transformer with the lowest combined transformer losses. It exceeds the EU Eco-Design (Tier 2) specifications that are due to come into force in 2021 for distribution transformer losses.

Over 1000 Wilson e2 Super Low Loss amorphous transformers are installed around the UK. These transformers help organisations reduce their energy waste through improved transformer losses. This is very instrumental for organisations with strict carbon reduction targets. Wilson amorphous transformers can save organisations on average more than 500 tons of CO2 emissions when they replace old energy-guzzling transformers.

Wilson Power Solutions has developed the product even further and launched recently its Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss Amorphous Transformers that set the bar for Tier 3 transformer losses with over 10% less losses.

Wilson Power Solutions team attended the award ceremony on the 20th of September at the Brewery in London. “Hearing about other shortlisted organisations and individuals was so inspiring. 10 years ago, I realised we should take action towards sustainable development. We invested in R&D to see how we can manufacture more efficient transformers. Since then, we have been constantly working on further improving our product offering, and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved thus far!” said Simon Wilson, joint managing director.
