Wilson Power Transformers Go Live at France’s Largest BESS

We are excited to celebrate a major milestone in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market with the energisation of France’s largest battery storage facility, Chevrié 100MW/200MWh.

This project underscores our commitment to advancing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development, demonstrated through our contribution to Europe’s energy transition by supplying transformers to the largest BESS projects in both France and Belgium.

The 100MW/200MWh BESS, located in Nantes Saint-Nazaire Harbour, is on the site of a former fossil fuel power plant and right next to the local grid operator’s substation. The project is developed by Harmony Energy, one of the key players in renowned utility-scale battery energy storage infrastructure projects. The site is equipped with 52 Tesla Megapacks and a Tesla Autobidder and can deliver power to 170,000 homes for two hours.

Wilson Power Solutions designed and manufactured the transformers. Our team of project managers and site engineers overtook the installation, assembly and pre-commissioning testing in France to ensure the site is built up to the highest standards.

We provided the full scope of transformers, consisting of:

  • One 110MVA 63/33kV Wilson Power Transformer with an HV On-Load Tap Changer

  • Twenty-six 4200kVA 33kV/480–480V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Large Distribution Transformers (MV transformers), each with two LV-voltage (LV) connections and fully compliant with EU Ecodesign Tier 2 standards

  • One 150kVA Auxiliary Earthing Transformer.

With supplied over 750 transformers in 9GW/17GWh (by Aug 2025) of BESS projects across the UK and EU, we played a key part in the four largest projects in the UK (by MWh) at the time of energisation: Lakeside Energy Park in North Yorkshire, Pillswood in East Yorkshire, Clay Tye in Essex, and Bumpers in Buckinghamshire.
