Since 2005, ASDA has reduced energy use in its existing stores by 33% and in new stores by 45%. Today, ASDA is committed to continuing to become ever more energy efficient. This means the energy team faces a significant challenge in evaluating technologies that drive energy efficiency yet remain cost-effective.

We supplied Asda with a Wilson e2 Super Low Loss Amorphous® transformer with an on-load tap changer that provides stabilised site voltage and thus maximises potential savings from reduced site voltage without the need for dedicated voltage management equipment. Asda identified their Dunfermline site as likely to benefit significantly from dynamically regulated site voltage.

Following the unit's installation, ASDA cut electricity usage by 7% and saved more than £25,000 per annum. The project achieved payback in under four years due to the combined savings from the optimised voltage regulation and low-loss transformer losses.
