It is the largest teaching hospital in the south-west peninsula of England and serves a catchment area of approximately 475,000 people. However, due to its specialist services, it is accessible to a much broader population, with around 2 million people from across the region able to access its care.

Over the years, we have supplied the hospital with eleven low-loss amorphous transformers. Their HV networks saw three different amorphous product generations: Wilson e2 Super Low Loss, Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss and Wilson e4 Ultimate Low Loss transformers. ME Contracting shares the photos below after they expertly carried out a tricky lifting procedure to position two KNAN (MIDEL-filled) 1250kVA Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss Amorphous® Transformers, close coupled with RN2D, into the basement.

With all eleven transformers now in operation, helping to increase reliability and drastically reduce their operating costs, Derriford can expect savings to pay back the price of the transformers in as little as two years, helping to redirect NHS funds where they are needed most.
