50MW/200MWh Belgium's largest BESS by MWh

​Eneco Wallonia Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a significant energy storage project located in Ville-sur-Haine, in Belgium's Wallonia region. Developed and fully owned by Eneco, a Dutch utility company, the facility became operational in October 2024. The BESS has a capacity of 50MW/200MWh, enabling it to supply power to the grid for up to four hours. It comprises 53 Tesla Megapack energy storage units, which were ordered following the acquisition of necessary permits.

The primary function of this facility is to balance the Belgian electricity grid, operated by Elia, by storing surplus energy generated from renewable sources like wind and solar. This stored energy can then be released during periods of high demand or low generation, thereby enhancing grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy.
