Hallen Battery Energy Storage Scheme (BESS) is a lithium-ion battery storage facility located in Avonmouth, near Bristol, UK. Developed by Voltalia, the facility comprises 16 BYD battery modules, each with a capacity of 2MWh, totaling 32MW and 32MWh. Construction of the Hallen BESS began in April 2021, and the facility became operational in December 2021, ahead of its initial schedule. The plant provides frequency management, balancing, and other ancillary services to the UK's local and national grids. In August 2022, Limejump, a subsidiary of Shell, began optimising the Hallen battery, marking Voltalia's first utility-scale battery project in the UK. We supplied the project with a 1500kVA 11kV/433V Auxiliary Transformer and multiple bespoke 33kV/400V-400V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Distribution Transformers; four 3200kVA and four 4800kVA.
