Challenging installation in a restrictive environment

Harley Street is renowned as the centre of private healthcare in London, but on this occasion, it was a transformer installation that required surgical precision and care. We supplied an 800kVA Wilson d2 transformer to one of the buildings on that street. The installation was particularly challenging due to the building’s Victorian structure. The transformer needed to be lowered into a basement through a narrow 1490mm gap, carefully navigating around a projecting bay window. Once inside, it had to be slid a further three metres to reach its final position.

We had to remove the LV & HV cable boxes prior to installation to be fitted on site. Our trusted transport partner, Collett & Sons Ltd, expertly handled the complex delivery and installation. Using an 82Te/m rigid crane vehicle, the team successfully lifted and positioned the transformer within the tight constraints of the site. This was far from a routine job and required precise coordination, specialist equipment, and experienced hands to deliver a smooth and safe outcome in a highly restricted urban environment.
