The Hawkers Hill Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a 20MW/40MWh facility located near Shaftesbury in Dorset, England. Developed by TagEnergy, the project was built in less than five months and became operational in 2022. The site utilises sixteen Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries connected to eight 2.8MVA 33kV/480V hermetically sealed Wilson T2 Ecotrans® MV Transformers in bunds.
The two-hour front-of-meter BESS utilises Tesla’s Autobidder AI software for real-time trading and control. The project will enable greater penetration of renewable energy to respond to electrification and the increased demand both domestically and commercially. During construction, EvoEnergy managed site preparation, including excavation, foundation laying, and access road construction. In collaboration with Motcombe Parish Council, TagEnergy co-funded a low-carbon street lighting initiative to benefit the local community, reflecting their commitment to sustainable development.
