Littleton Solar Project

The Littleton Solar Project is a 31-megawatt (MW) solar farm under construction near Evesham in Worcestershire, England. Occupying a 77-acre site—equivalent to approximately 58 football fields—the project is expected to generate enough clean energy to power around 9,400 homes annually. SSE Renewables acquired the development rights for the Littleton Pastures site in December 2021, and construction commenced in early 2024, with Grupotec appointed as the civil contractor.

The Littleton Solar Project represents SSE Renewables' inaugural venture into solar energy, complementing its existing portfolio of wind and hydroelectric projects. This initiative aligns with the UK's broader strategy to increase solar power capacity to 70 GW by 2035, contributing to national energy security and net-zero emissions targets. The Littleton Solar Project aims to deliver sustainable benefits to the environment and the local population by integrating renewable energy generation with ecological and community-focused initiatives. Wilson Power Solutions is proud to play a key role in this pioneering project, ensuring a stable and efficient power connection to support the transition to greener energy solutions.

Littleton Solar Farm will connect 31MW of solar photovoltaics to a 66kV distribution network substation near Honeybourne, reinforcing the region’s commitment to sustainable energy generation. Wilson Power Solutions supplied and installed a 23.5MVA 66/33kV Wilson Power Transformer designed to support the efficient integration of solar power into the grid. Our experienced site engineers assembled this transformer on-site, ensuring compliance with Tier 2 standards and optimal performance for the renewable energy facility.

The transformer is now fully installed and ready for energisation, facilitating the next phase of the project’s development. The transformer features a 10.0% design impedance and an HV On-Load Tap Changer with a ±10% range in 1.25% increments, linked to a free-standing AVR Panel for precise voltage control. It is also equipped with monitoring systems for oil and winding temperatures, low oil level alarms, high oil level trip contacts, an oil-filled conservator, and a Buchholz relay, ensuring robust system protection.
