Owned by Gresham House and developed by Metka EG, Osbaldwick BESS in York showcases twenty-five one-and-a-half-hour batteries by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL). At certain times of the day, this battery energy storage site can provide power to as many as 100,000 homes for up to an hour.
This project had several challenges to overcome regarding proximity to trees, requirements for additional drainage work and the potential for ecological risks. An ecological assessment was undertaken, and mitigation measures were implemented to protect wildlife and comply with local and national planning policies.
