Operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), the Port of Ipswich is a significant commercial port located in Suffolk, England, on the east coast of the UK. It is one of the busiest ports in East Anglia and primarily handles agricultural products, bulk cargo, and timber. Ipswich has a long maritime history dating back to the Middle Ages, when it was a major trading hub. The port has evolved from a historic shipping centre to a modern commercial port, and it remains crucial for regional and international trade, particularly in Northern Europe.

The Port of Ipswich is one of the UK’s leading grain export ports, handling around 2 million tonnes of cargo per year. The port has specialised terminals and modern facilities to efficiently handle a variety of cargo types, including berths and quays, warehousing and storage facilities, and cargo handling equipment such as mobile cranes, conveyor systems, forklifts, and material handlers.

Together with other regional ports, the Port of Ipswich contributes approximately £360 million annually to the UK economy. The East Anglian port invests heavily in its facilities to improve efficiency and facilitate further electrification. As part of that investment, Associated British Ports opted for two of our most efficient transformers to maintain a reliable connection to their facilities, the Wilson e3 Ultra-Low Loss Amorphous® Transformer. The 500lVA transformers were designed with bespoke dual HV and finished with MIO paint for marine environments to protect them against severe saline conditions and increase their lifespan in their new environment.
