Westcott Venture Park is the largest business park in Buckinghamshire, rich in history and scientific achievement. Originally established as RAF Westcott in 1941 during the Second World War, the site has evolved into a hub of technological advancement. In the 1950s, it was the birthplace of propulsion systems for the UK’s first space rocket. It later played a key role in the development of cold gas thrusters for satellite navigation systems, cementing its legacy in aerospace innovation.

Scope of Work

Two 1500kVA 11kV/415V KNAN Wilson e4 Ultimate Low Loss Amorphous® Transformers, close coupled with RN2d RMUs & LV cabinets

Today, Westcott is home to the National Space Propulsion Test Facility, where next-generation satellite engines and sustainable propellants are developed and tested. The park has become a leading centre for science, engineering, and advanced manufacturing, with over 90 different organisations operating on-site. Its growing portfolio of industrial units, office spaces, research facilities, and commercial amenities all require a robust and efficient power infrastructure.

To support the park’s continued development, we supplied two 1500kVA 11kV/415V Wilson e4 Ultimate Low Loss Amorphous® Transformers. Both transformers were closed-coupled with RN2d Ring Master Unit on the HV side and a 2500A LV cabinet, providing electronic protection and adjustable overcurrent. These high-efficiency transformers will provide power to new industrial and warehouse units, a purpose-built restaurant, a modern conference centre, and a dedicated office facility.

The development has been designed to meet a minimum BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and an EPC ‘A’ energy performance rating, making our transformers an ideal fit thanks to their 27% lower combined energy losses compared to Tier 2 standards. The Wilson e4 transformers, close-coupled with RN2d Ringmaster units, were installed and commissioned as part of a new substation delivered by Premier Power Services Ltd, continuing to help power this important site at the heart of the UK’s innovation economy.
