Powering growth and water quality

The Witches Oak programme is a Severn Trent Green Recovery initiative that delivers additional treated water in a low-carbon and reduced chemical treatment way. Located beside Church Wilne Water Treatment Works in Derbyshire, the new works introduce a complex set of processes to improve resilience, protect water quality, and meet a challenging water supply deadline. Alongside process upgrades, the scheme required reliable high- and low-voltage power distribution across new treatment assets and pumping stations.

To support the delivery programme and the electrical demands of the new plant, we supplied a suite of Wilson T2 Ecotrans Distribution Transformers that provide efficient voltage transformation, robust protection, and straightforward integration with the site control philosophy. The package comprised two 2500kVA, 11kV to 690V, bespoke voltage transformers, fitted with an oil level gauge, an oil temperature indicator, a winding temperature indicator, and a conservator with a gas-operated Buchholz relay, all of which were close-coupled with a free-issue ring main unit. In addition, 1600kVA, 1250kVA and 500kVA 11kV to 433V transformers were each supplied with an oil level gauge, an oil temperature indicator, and a winding temperature indicator, and each was close-coupled with a free-issue ring main unit. This configuration supports safe operation, simplifies installation, and delivers reliable performance for critical treatment processes.
