Tophill Low Water Treatment Works Upgrade

The Tophill Low Water Treatment Works project supports Yorkshire Water’s programme to improve taste and odour performance while expanding resilience at a 68 Ml/d surface water plant near Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The site treats raw water through pH correction, ozonation, coagulation, dissolved air flotation, rapid gravity filtration, nitrate removal and final disinfection, with seasonal powdered activated carbon dosing to manage taste and odour compounds. Upgrades to the main and dirty wash water processes required dependable high voltage and low voltage power for new assets, including the interstage pumping station, new GAC adsorbers and sludge treatment equipment.

Scope of Work	500kVA 11kV/433V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Distribution Transformer

To provide a reliable supply for the new treatment streams, we supplied a 500kVA 11kV/433V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® CRGO Distribution Transformer. The transformer is fitted with oil temperature and winding temperature indicators, as well as a magnetic oil level gauge. It is close-coupled to an RN2d Ring Main Unit for compact switching and protection. This package integrates with the upgraded HV installation to deliver secure, efficient power to the new GAC plant and associated sludge treatment systems.

The new transformer and RMU provide a robust electrical backbone for the treatment upgrades at Tophill Low, enabling improved control of taste and odour, safeguarding process continuity, and providing an efficient platform for the future operation of the GAC and sludge treatment assets.
