We are thrilled to mark a new landmark in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market! The largest battery storage facility in Belgium went live at the start of October 2024 and is now fully operational. Matching the scale of the impressive Lakeside BESS in West Yorkshire, UK – which we also powered with our transformers – this Belgian project is yet another remarkable achievement.
The 50MW/200MWh BESS site, located in Ville-sur-Haine, Wallonia, is operated by Eneco Belgium, Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary. Equipped with 53 Tesla Megapacks, it can deliver power for four hours and store renewable energy from wind and solar sources to sustainably energise the grid.
Wilson Power Solutions proudly supported the build phase, sending our team to Belgium to assist with the transformer installations. The facility’s setup includes:
One 40/55MVA, 150/33kV Wilson Power Transformer with an HV On-Load Tap Changer (±10% in 1.25% Steps)
Fourteen 4.4MVA 33kV/480-480V Wilson T2 Ecotrans® Distribution Transformers, each with four medium-voltage (MV) connections and fully compliant with EU Ecodesign Tier 2 standards
One 150kVA Auxiliary Earthing Transformer
Each bespoke-built Wilson T2 transformer connects to four Tesla batteries, optimising land use, reducing raw materials and cable needs, and trimming production time and transportation costs.
The photos capture the installation journey and the finished facility, showcasing the power of teamwork, innovation, and sustainability in action.
