Gatwick Airport ranks as the 10th busiest airport in Europe by passenger numbers (2024), with over 950 aircraft movements each day. Its two terminals span more than 250,000 square metres and serve between 40 and 46 million passengers annually. Originally opened as an aerodrome in the late 1920s, Gatwick began commercial operations in 1933 and has since grown into a major international aviation hub.
A leader in airport sustainability, Gatwick was the first to join RE100, a global initiative committed to 100% renewable electricity. Today, all of its electricity is sourced from renewables. The airport has replaced over 10,000 lights across its facilities with energy-efficient LEDs and replaced diesel in onsite vehicles with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as they transition to electric vehicles.
