The Redditch Peaking Power Plant is a modern hydrogen-ready power station located in Worcestershire, England. While it currently uses natural gas, its infrastructure is designed to accommodate a transition to hydrogen fuel in the future. This allows the plant to support the UK's long-term decarbonisation goals, as hydrogen has the potential to be a low-carbon or even carbon-free fuel source, depending on how it is produced.
The plant has a capacity of 20 megawatts and was built on the site of a previously decommissioned diesel-fuelled power facility. Its primary function is to serve as a peaking plant, which means it operates during times of high electricity demand or when the supply from renewable sources like wind and solar is insufficient.
